Stone runs in the family.
Our family has worked stone for three generations, with relatives still operating in Italy today in natural stone, granite and marble — sourcing directly from the mountains and restoring churches and buildings that have stood for centuries.
That is not a marketing line. It is where our material comes from, and it is the standard we were taught to. We read a property the way an architect reads a building: proportion first, material second, detail last.

What does an ultra-luxury pool and landscape project cost in Oakville?

Do you build grottos, lazy rivers and beach-entry pools?
Yes — that is the core of what we do. Grottos cut from natural stone, beach-entry shorelines, lazy rivers, swim-up bars, structural bridges over water, sheer-descent waterfalls and water walls, vanishing edges and integrated spas. All of it drawn, engineered and built by our own team rather than subcontracted out.
How large a project will Milton Stone take on?
As large as it gets in this region. We have built single estate projects running to 80,000–90,000 square feet of interlocking stone, driveways well over 10,000 square feet, and retaining walls totalling roughly 2.7 kilometres end to end. Individual estate builds run into the millions and multiple millions.
Which areas and neighbourhoods do you work in?
Our core region is Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton, along with Toronto — including the Bridle Path and the waterfront estates along Lakeshore Road in Oakville. Southern Ontario is home, but we have delivered projects across Canada, including a retaining wall commission for a mega-development in Hawaii.
Are you a pool designer or a pool builder?
Both, and that is the point. The pool is designed as part of the landscape architecture for the whole property, then built by the same firm. You are not handing a designer’s drawing to a separate contractor and hoping it survives — the people who drew it are the people who pour it.
What exactly does Milton Stone do?
Milton Stone is a luxury landscape architecture and estate pool design firm based in Oakville, Ontario, serving Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Southern Ontario. We are a design-build practice specialising in resort-scale outdoor environments — pools and water features, structural stonework, cabanas and pavilions, estate drives and terraces, lighting and planting. The firm is built on three generations of Italian stone craftsmanship and 25+ years of construction in Southern Ontario.
Where does your stone come from?
Much of our natural stone, granite and marble is sourced through our own family in Italy, who still operate there in quarried stone and who restore Italian churches and buildings centuries old. Material is chosen rather than ordered, which is the difference you see in a finished terrace ten years later.
Do you provide design consultations and 3D renders?
Yes. We begin with a consultation call, then an on-site visit to assess grades, drainage, access and existing conditions. From there we produce landscape architecture drawings and 3D renders so you see the finished estate before excavation. Design is a paid, standalone service, credited toward the build if you proceed with us.
Do you handle permits, engineering and inspections?
Yes. We manage permits, inspections and municipal approvals where a project requires them — pool enclosure permits, lot grading and drainage approvals, and structural engineering review for retaining walls above the regulated height. Requirements differ between Oakville, Burlington, Milton and each Toronto-area municipality, so we confirm what applies to your property at the design stage.
Can you work alongside our architect or builder?
Yes, and we often do. We work with custom home builders, architects and interior designers — either taking a completed drawing set to construction, or joining early to advise on grades, elevations, drainage and material selection. On a new build, coordinating the landscape package before the house is finished usually saves both money and rework.
How long does an estate project take?
A designed pool with its surrounding terraces and stonework is typically a single-season build once drawings are approved and permits are in hand. Resort-scale transformations with grottos, rivers and structures are often planned across two seasons by design, so structure, planting and finishes land at the right time of year.
How do you make sure it lasts?
The part nobody sees decides it. Base preparation, drainage engineering, compaction and edge restraint are where hardscape fails, so that is where we are strictest. We are a Techo-PRO certified contractor through the ICPI and NCMA, our crews are in-house rather than subcontracted, and the work carries a written warranty.
