Plan the pool enclosure alongside the pool, patio and access route. For a property in Georgetown, Acton or rural Halton Hills, start with the address and a clear drawing of the complete proposal.

What does Halton Hills require?
The Town’s pool enclosure permit guidance covers installing or altering outdoor pools, unenclosed hot tubs or spas, and barriers that form part of an enclosure. Obtain the permit before construction or installation starts.
The Town asks applicants to check zoning and prepare a site plan showing the pool, enclosure and gates, together with fencing and locking details, the application and applicable fees. Other approvals may depend on the property and scope. Check the current Town guidance for the requirements applying to your proposal.
What should be resolved before the layout is fixed?
Use one coordinated plan for the pool, terrace, cabana, gates and equipment area. Ask the design team to explain how people will move between the house and pool, where construction equipment will enter, and which existing features will remain. Identify the working area separately from the finished garden so the proposal includes access protection and reinstatement.
- Existing fencing: photograph the fence, gates and adjoining surfaces for review rather than assuming they can remain unchanged.
- Future additions: show a proposed cabana, deck or outdoor kitchen even if it will be built in a later phase.
- Site questions: record drainage concerns, changes in level and features near the work for the project team to investigate.

When can the pool be filled?
Halton Hills requires the completed enclosure to be inspected and operational. The Town states that the pool must not be filled or used until approval is granted. Confirm inspection arrangements and responsibility with your contractor before scheduling handover.
What should the quote and schedule include?
Ask for a written allocation of responsibility for drawings, applications, specialist reviews, construction, inspections and handover. Separate permit fees and professional services from the pool installation price. A useful schedule identifies dependencies and product lead times without treating an estimated review period as a promised approval date.
