Good aftercare starts with knowing the material. Concrete pavers, natural stone, porcelain, jointing products and sealers should not all receive the same cleaning treatment.
Start with the product schedule
Identify the exact paving and jointing products before choosing a cleaner or maintenance method. Keep a spare-material record and the manufacturer’s care instructions from handover. If a surface has been sealed, record the sealer too; compatibility matters when planning future cleaning or recoating.
Keep routine cleaning gentle
Sweep away leaves and debris and address spills promptly with an appropriate method for the surface. Techo-Bloc advises against wire brushes and strong acids on its products and warns that incorrect pressure-washer use can cause damage. Check its current care guide before selecting a treatment. Natural stone needs guidance specific to the stone and finish.
Review joints, edges and drainage
During a seasonal walk, photograph areas of joint loss, movement, persistent ponding or loose pieces. Send the location and photographs to your project contact before attempting a repair. An uneven area may need investigation of the supporting construction or water movement, rather than simply topping up a joint.
Prepare a material-specific winter plan
Confirm suitable snow-clearing equipment and de-icing products for each installed surface. Do not assume a product approved for one paving collection is appropriate for another. Share the finish schedule with your snow contractor so they can follow the relevant manufacturer guidance.
Separate appearance from a repair issue
Document changes rather than guessing their cause. For example, Techo-Bloc describes efflorescence as a common mineral residue on concrete products; other marks may require a different response. Ask for an assessment when the cause is uncertain, and confirm a compatible treatment before applying it.
