Artificial Turf Care & Maintenance for Ontario Homes
A clean, well-kept lawn or putting green depends on a care routine suited to its turf system, use and surroundings. Low maintenance still means some maintenance.
Start with your artificial grass system
Record the turf manufacturer, product, infill and installation details. Ask for the care manual at handover, along with the permitted cleaning products and tools. A decorative lawn, pet area and putting green may have different needs; keep their instructions separate.
Debris removal, rinsing and brushing
SYNLawn’s care guidance identifies debris removal, occasional rinsing and brushing as routine tasks. Its manual calls for synthetic bristles rather than metal or wire bristles. Follow the instructions for your installed product and adjust the routine to actual foot traffic, nearby trees and use. Do not use aggressive pressure washing without checking the manufacturer’s limits.
Pet areas need their own care plan
Ask the installer how your particular turf and drainage system should be cleaned after pet use. Confirm compatible cleaning and odour-control products rather than applying household chemicals by trial and error. Record recurring concerns and share them with the installer so the surface, infill and drainage can be assessed together.
Check seams, edges and drainage
During a walkthrough, look for lifted edges, separating seams, changes in the surface and persistent pooling. Photograph the location and describe when the issue appears. Have the installer assess repairs or infill adjustments instead of adding an unidentified material yourself. Keep the observations with your project records.
Putting greens and high-use areas
A putting green is a performance surface as well as a landscape feature. Discuss ball-roll expectations, grooming and specialist maintenance with the installer. Note changes in heavily used locations so any assessment can focus on the parts of the installation that need attention.
Protect the handover information
Keep the care guide, warranty, product identification and service history accessible. Before arranging cleaning or repairs, share those details with the person doing the work. Ask which aftercare appointments are included in your project agreement and plan separately for any additional maintenance.
