Location

Halton Hills

Driveway area

5,500 sq. ft.

Scope

Driveway.
Pool deck.
Drainage.

A home with history

Renewing the landscape.
Respecting what was already there.

The homeowners had last undertaken a major transformation in the 1980s. This time, they wanted to renew the outdoor spaces of their approximately ten-acre estate while preserving the character of the house and its beautifully maintained grounds.

For Milton Stone, the brief reached beyond new paving. It called for careful access, substantial groundwork and a drainage strategy suited to the property. Just as important was giving the owners a team they could reach, rely on and feel comfortable having at their home.

The challenge beneath the surface

A long slope.
A deliberate drainage plan.

The approach runs downhill for approximately 300 feet toward the garage doors. That made runoff management central to the project: the new surface needed to work with a drainage system designed to intercept water before it reached the garages.

We installed collection drainage in front of the garage doors together with a network of basins and drainage routes leading toward the rear of the property. The paving grades and water-collection points were planned together, rather than treating drainage as an afterthought.

The construction included excavation, subsoil compaction and an engineered base. At least eight loads of base material and approximately 150 bags of polymeric sand illustrate the scale of the work. Careful coordination kept materials, machinery and the installation team moving through the site.

Existing paving was removed and the underlying work completed before the finished surface was installed. Around the house, we also renewed the pool deck and side areas, connecting the wider landscape through the paving work.

Care beyond the contract

Looking after the property.
Looking after the people.

Protecting the established landscape was a priority throughout construction. We repaired affected lawn areas and attended to the finishing details so the grounds looked cared for when the work was complete.

We also identified concerns with the existing staircase and provided complimentary reinforcement. The work included excavation below frost depth, concrete footings and added post-and-beam support—an additional gesture of care for the homeowners.

A relationship built on trust

More than a new driveway.

Francesco’s availability, attention to detail and hands-on project management helped turn a major construction project into a close relationship with the homeowners. They told us the improvements had enhanced their lifestyle, and their warmth made this one of the team’s most memorable projects.

A further approximately 200-foot stretch of driveway is planned for phase two. It is the next chapter of the property’s renewal, rather than part of the completed work shown here.

Planning an estate driveway?

Why did drainage play such a large role here?

The long downhill approach directed runoff toward the garages. Collection drainage, basins and connected drainage routes were therefore integral to the paving plan.

Which paving materials were used?

Techo-Bloc Blu 80, Slate finish, in Shale Grey, paired with smooth Onyx Black Blu 6-by-12-inch rectangular border units.

Did the work extend beyond the driveway?

Yes. The scope also included the pool deck, side-of-house paving, drainage work and lawn restoration, with complimentary reinforcement of the existing stairs.
