Composite Decks in Oakville & Toronto GTA

A comfortable outdoor room with a consistent finish and a manageable care routine.

An outdoor room with a considered material palette.

Composite decking suits homeowners who want the appearance of a finished terrace without making periodic wood refinishing part of their routine. Milton Stone plans composite decks around the house, garden and way the space will be used. The board is one decision; the support structure, stairs, railings and transitions determine how the complete deck functions.

Choose the board in the setting where it will be used

Review physical samples outside, alongside the brick, stone and doors of your home. Look at a larger sample if possible: a small colour chip cannot show the full variation of a finished deck. Compare the product’s surface texture, profile, colour range and written care instructions. For sunny seating areas, ask to experience the selected finish under comparable conditions rather than assuming every composite board feels the same.

A picture-frame border can define the terrace and conceal exposed board ends, but it adds cuts, supports and material. Discuss whether the visual result is worth the additional installation work. Stairs and perimeter trims should be included in the same finish schedule as the main floor.

Resolve the structure before choosing a surface

An existing wood deck is not automatically ready for new composite boards. Its framing, connections and overall condition need assessment, along with the selected decking system’s installation requirements. A resurfacing proposal should state what remains, what is repaired and what is rebuilt.

Plan dining and lounge zones using actual furniture dimensions. Keep the route between the house, stairs and garden usable when chairs are pulled out. Coordinate railing posts, lighting and any privacy screen before the board layout is finalized.

Compare complete installed quotations

Ask for the exact board range and colour, approximate deck area, framing scope, edge treatment, fastening method, stairs, railings and cleanup. Separate optional lighting or screening from the essential deck construction. If demolition is required, include removal and disposal so the new surface price is not mistaken for the whole project cost.

Care and product selection

Composite means a different maintenance routine, not an absence of maintenance. Ask for cleaning instructions for the exact product and discuss how leaves, furniture and cooking areas will be managed. Manufacturer warranty terms and installation workmanship terms should be provided separately; brand names alone do not establish what is covered.

Questions before you begin.

Can you replace my wood boards with composite?

Possibly, after the existing structure and the selected product requirements have been assessed. A quotation should identify any framing changes rather than assuming a direct board-for-board swap.

Can the deck connect to a stone patio?

Yes, that transition can be planned within a larger landscape project. Review the finished levels, steps, drainage and furniture arrangement together.
