Choose the priority activity
For sports courts, identify the main sport and whether the space is intended for casual play, practice or a particular standard of use. Ask the designer to distinguish playing lines from the complete space required around them. A multi-sport layout can be useful, but overlapping activities and equipment should be reviewed before selecting the surface.
Protect circulation and neighbouring spaces
Show how people reach the court without crossing a dining area or entering an active playing zone unexpectedly. Discuss fencing, ball containment, evening use and the relationship to nearby homes. Review local requirements and site constraints before fixing the location. Keep spectator seating out of the space the activity needs, and consider where equipment will be stored when play ends.
Shape a putting green around practice
With putting greens, discuss the shots you want to practise, preferred contours, hole locations and whether any surrounding approach area is needed. An interesting green does not have to occupy the centre of the garden. Coordinate its edges with paths and planting. Ask about the selected surface, base preparation and care so the finished feature matches your expectations for use.
Specify basketball equipment as a system
Motorized basketball systems need assessment of the actual equipment, mounting conditions, controls and manufacturer requirements. For existing equipment, provide the model, reported fault and maintenance history. Have the relevant specialists determine installation or repair scope. Avoid treating a motorized assembly as ordinary garden furniture or selecting replacement components solely because they look similar.
Plan the garden that remains
Preserve a comfortable place to sit, useful paths and planting that gives the recreation area a setting. Review lighting with the intended hours of use and effects on neighbouring spaces. Ask for the quote to distinguish surface construction, equipment, services, fencing and restoration. The best plan makes room for play while allowing the rest of the household to enjoy the garden at the same time.
